Getting Better

Bed rest is not that much fun. I spent all day Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday on "bed rest". I really should call it "couch rest" cause that's where I parked myself. And to be frankly honest, I did leave the house each day for a sanity check. On Friday, my ankle swelling went down a bit. I went down to Salt Lake to have lunch and a pedicure with April. I came home and took a nap. Then Chris and Bree came over for dinner and we had a great time catching up with them.

By Saturday morning, my ankles were almost the size they normally are! I was still very tired so I continued my resting as I should have. We went to April's sister's wedding in the late afternoon and left the reception as I started to get pretty tired and my belly was cramping a little. Sunday morning, all we did was go to church. I spent the entire rest of the day on the couch, continuing to practice my resting. Today, again, I sat around all morning. I did clean the bathroom but restrained my cleaning bug and stopped at that (I could have cleaned the whole house!).

This afternoon I had another check up and my blood pressure was down and I had no protein in my urine! Yay! So I got better! She said that I don't have to be on bed rest anymore but that I need to take it easy. She didn't want me to go back to work but said I could work from home just fine. This could come back and I need to make sure to not overdo it.

After checking me and determining that I've already dilated to a 1 and am 50% effaced, she thinks I'll still have the baby around my original due date unless the preeclampsia comes back and she has to deliver me early. She thinks I still have two more weeks at least before the baby comes.

I continue on in my bun cooking...

Funny how things change in just a day

It's funny how things will change in such a short amount of time. Yesterday morning I had a list of things to do, a busy day planned ahead for my hubby's birthday, and a busy weekend planned hanging out with my best friend, attending a wedding, and running a ton of errands on my days off on Friday and Monday. I had big plans to clean the house and do some car maintenance, get a jump on all the weddings and babies in the next month by getting a bunch of gifts and wrapping them, renew my driver's license and a multitude of other things.

So I got up yesterday morning, my husbands 34th birthday, and got ready for the day. The only difference between yesterday and every other morning is that my ankles were really swollen. They had started to swell the day before and I hoped that the night would help reduce, but to no avail. Oh well, it's just warmer and maybe I didn't drink enough water. I headed to my routine doctor's appointment and things changed. She walked in the room and noticed my massive ankles then looked at my chart and without hesitation stated that I was done with work and on bed rest! That was a shock! The quick and massive swelling in my legs (and really everywhere, let's not kid ourselves here), my elevated blood pressure (I've been 120/80 every appointment up until now), and protein in my urine, indicated preeclampsia. She was concerned to say the least and told me that I had to stop going to work and have to be on bed rest until further notice or until the baby comes. Further notice means that either I'll get better or I'll get worse. Hopefully I'll get better!

I went to work (nice start to the bed rest right?) and wrapped up what I need to. I talked with my boss who is allowing me to work from home for the next couple of weeks. I just run reports on my computer all day, so it should be easy to do from bed. I also had a baby shower hosted at work so I wanted to attend that and say my goodbyes to my coworkers. I planned on being at work for 3 more weeks so it was a whirlwind trying to get everything wrapped up and organized. Again, not good for the bed rest. Fogg came up to attend the baby shower and say hi to my work friends (from his days at backcountry.com). Here are some pictures from the shower.

Next, Fogg and I went to dinner for his birthday, graciously paid for by his brother for both our birthday's! We went to a nice place in Park City called the Westgate Grill. We had a delicious dinner and got to just spend time together talking which was great. We had a fantastic dessert of chocolate souffle and apple pie with candles in it! Luckily no one sang to us!


Then we headed home finally (still haven't really practiced my bed rest yet today - whoops). Here is Fogg enjoying his birthday gifts! I got him a road bike saddle, a new egg and muffin toaster (this is his third one he uses them so much), glacier glasses to use for our trip to Portland and Mt. Hood at the end of June, a The North Face hoody (both items modeled below) and a flip camcorder. He started to film London right away... We hope to use the Flip to film the baby cause it's so easy to share videos via the internet with our family!



So finally, it was off to bed to put my feet up for the first time all day - at 10pm! So because I was a very bad girl my first day on bed rest, here I am sitting in front of the tv, doing my best to bed rest today. London is just chilling by my side while I blog and facebook and catch up on my news stories on the Today show. It's going to be hard for me to not look around, see something that needs to be done and start doing stuff around the house. My to do list is still around waiting for things to get a line through it!


But as I woke up this morning, I commented to Fogg that I'm kinda glad I can't do everything I want to today, cause I'm tired! I'm so driven by my "to do" list that I'll work myself ragged to complete it all. I had already taken today and Monday off of work and had an aggressive list of tasks to complete. I'm kinda relieved that I have to sit around rather than get it all done. So today my list includes finishing this blog post, taking a shower, having lunch with my friend April and then some friends are coming over for dinner. Originally, it was that plus about 10 other things.

Off to my "busy" day of bed rest...

A Wicked good Birthday

So it was my 28th birthday yesterday. I hadn't really been focused on it because I've been worrying about someone else's "birth" day. But I had a great day. I unfortunately did not sleep very well that night, so I woke up fairly early not feeling great. So I went downstairs and made myself a nice warm cup of tea (decaf of course). Then Fogg came down and made me a yummy breakfast. We cleaned up and headed to church. After church we went to Costco and got many useful and needed items (we love Costco)! I'm most excited about getting the DVD Planet Earth. If you haven't seen it, you really should! It's great for all ages and is fascinating. I plan on having it on at the hospital a lot. It's got calming music and there isn't really a storyline to follow so if I check out mentally for a bit, I don't really miss much. I think it will also be great to share with our children. Anyway, we got a gift card from Nanny (my mom's mom, we just call her Nanny) so that's what we used it on. Then off to Target for some groceries. Then we headed home to do a little bit of house work and hanging out before we headed downtown. Fogg got me these beautiful flowers for my birthday.

We met up with our friends and headed down to SLC to have dinner at the Happy Sumo before we saw the show.

Then we went to see Wicked at the Capitol Theatre. It was amazing. It was a bit hot in there and the guy next to me kinda smelled worse as the show went on and he sweat more and more. But I worked through it. The singers were great and Fogg even enjoyed it. Great show! Makes you think about who really are the mean people and maybe you shouldn't take things at face value. The baby sure did react when things got really loud. I'm glad we got to see it!

Finally Finished

Well, I finally finished the baby room. It's exciting for a couple of reasons. Well, first of all, a project is finished and doesn't that just feel good? Secondly, it means that baby's arrival is getting pretty close (only four weeks left). Thirdly, it lowers my stress level a lot to have some major tasks checked off the to do list. It is fun to walk into the room and just look around. It's ready for baby! Only a few more things on my "to get list", the stroller, the pack and play, and a few towels (have none right now). But I truly think I have everything else. I have a couple of more things on the "to do list" but if you know me at all, you know that I've always got one rolling. I need to pack the bag for the hospital, renew my license (it actually expires today - yikes!), do a little car maintenance, clean the house, and that's generally it! We stocked up on some needs at Costco today so I'm set with some of those pesky household items that you hate running out of. Got plenty of diapers and onesies and am set to go! I also washed all the baby's clothes yesterday and organized them all. Now I just need to pick a "coming home from the hospital outfit". I dreamed all about it last night, waking myself up a couple of times thinking about it. How dumb is that? I just know that the pictures taken on that day will be plentiful so we gotta make sure little Fogg looks cute!

So without further ado, here is the baby room in it's completion!!!! We will start the tour from the doorway. So if you were standing in the doorway, this is what you would see:

If you were to turn to the right a little from this first picture, this is what you would see: the crib and window.

Next we look at the wall with the crib on it with a bit more detail:

Since you can't see the pictures hanging up on the wall very well, they are pictures of woodland/mountain animals with their babies. A closer view at the crib set:

I just love this sheet set! It's all organic cotton, which I love, and it's a meadow themed so it's got grass and flowers on it. A great gender neutral pattern. Next, shift your way to the left to the window:


Nothing special with the window. So let's continue on to the left and you see the changing table/dresser. Again, nothing special, just a dresser with a changing pad on it. I put the floating shelves up with organic items on them. There are pinecones, acorns and rocks in little glass jars and then a bucket with stick colored pencils. That big blob in the far upper left corner is a stuffed bison toy. Then an F for Fogg.

Moving on to the left, you see the "nursing corner". The lamp behind the chair is very soft light, something I can switch on in the middle of the night to read a book while nursing, but that is not too bright for the baby. Got a nice side table for my glass of water or whatever I might need. I've got a basket next to the chair for books for both me and the baby.

Moving one more time to the left, here is the closet. Lots of extras in the closet - diapers, clothes, blankets, wipes. I think I need a bit more shelving in the closet for more stuff but I'll worry about that later...

So that completes our tour of the baby room. Fogg says it's the nicest room in the house which very well may be true! It's a very calm and clean and organized room for now anyway.

Well, we are off to a show for my birthday today! Update on that later...

Snowbasin

Some fine ladies that I work with up at Snowbasin put together a little "shower" for me and Fogg today. They did a great job, had a cute (and delicious) cake and many people from Snowbasin pitched in for some great baby gifts for us! Now if they would just teach our little one to ski in a couple of years, that would be great, mom and dad can't do it, there is too much pressure. Here are some pics:

Donuts

I got to work early yesterday and REALLY wanted a donut, but I did not get one (good for me, I get a brownie point). Anyway, today it is snowing and snowed a little last night. This is what I found sitting outside my desk window:

It's a donut of snow on the lamp!!! Coincidence? I don't think so, I should have had the freaking donut yesterday...

Great Friends

I have fantastic friends. I have the best friends in the world. I have such good friends that I am not worthy of all the greatness they possess. I feel like a crappy friend next to the friends that I have.

These great friends threw me a baby shower. My mom's great friends threw me a shower in Chicago at the beginning of the month, and my great friends threw me a shower here in Utah on March 28th. So many of my friends came to celebrate the impending birth of our child and brought all kinds of great gifts.

Bree and her mom, Margo, threw me the shower at my house. It was great to be in my own place and everyone could come see the baby room too. They got this massive Subway sandwich and made beautiful cupcakes. The shower was Polka Dot themed so there were lots of little dot things.
