Moab

We went to one of our favorite places for Memorial Day weekend - Moab.  Last year we went with a bunch of people and it was a bit chaotic so this year we kept it small and family oriented and it was a blast.  We went with our friends James and Michelle and their new little daughter Gracie (6 weeks old!) and Bill and Marit and their little girl Hazel (2 1/2 years old).  We all split a 3 bedroom condo which was perfect as a home base, it was comfy and had all the comforts of home.  Each family had their own room to put kids down for naps and feel comfortable.  Reed and Hazel had a great time playing together, Reed even kept asking where "my friend" went when she wasn't around. 

We took on the "it takes a village" approach and rotated watching kids so everyone could ride.  The girl's let the boy's go on a couple of fast rides on their own as well.  Everyone got at least two rides in during the weekend, which I would say is pretty good!

We arrived on Friday afternoon and settled in.  It was pretty windy so we laid low.  James and Fogg went for an evening ride while Bill and Marit were still driving down.  Michelle and I just hunkered down in the condo. 

Saturday was super duper windy but me and the three men ventured out anyway to do the Kane Creek trail.  I have to say, it was a super fun trail!  It was right up my ally, a little technical, windy (like it winds not blowing wind), no big hills up or down.  The wind was a good distraction cause I just kept on going through the wind gusts and didn't think too hard about the obstacles.  We went back to that trail on Monday morning and it seemed harder without the wind!  We laid low the rest of the day due to the wind and had a nice dinner all together that evening.

Sunday was beautiful, mid 70s, no wind.  The whole group headed out to a trail head called Sovereign trail and Fogg and James stayed back with the kids while me, Michelle, Marit and Bill went out.  This was Michelle's first ride in a while and first after having the baby.  This was Marit's second time on a bike.  We took it slow, stayed together, encouraged Marit and had some fun.  We had a hard time finding the trail for some reason so by the time we found it, we only got to go a small way up before turning around so Michelle could feed her baby.  But it was a good time nonetheless.  Here is me and Marit - the "Moab Moto Mamas" after the ride, too bad Michelle was already gone!

 

The boys then went for a fast ride that afternoon and the girls went to the art fest in the park.  Here are some pictures from the boys ride that day:

Monday morning was clear and warm so we did another group ride out to Kane Creek again so that Michelle and Marit could ride again.  Another friend of ours, Andrew, came down so he and his girlfriend offered to watch kids with Bill (he crashed hard on the boy ride and his knee was bumming so he stayed back) so I got to ride again!  So it was five of us, I stayed with Marit and James and Michelle got to go fast and ride together.  Fogg was our sweep and he stayed with me and Marit for a little bit then went out fast for a while.  We had some lunch after the ride and then headed home.

Sorry I just didn't take any pictures!  These above are from Marit and James so that's all you get.  I just didn't feel like taking pictures so sorry that there aren't more.  We had a blast anyway, getting out of town, relaxing for a bit.  Can't wait to go back!
